Mkomazi is Tanzania’s youngest National Park having been gazetted in 2006. It has been a Game Reserve since 1951. It is one of the few areas where you can see rhino in Tanzania. It is also an IUCN special bird area and camping at one of the National Park Camp sites gives you a great opportunity for birdwatching.
Mkomazi is vital refuge for two critically endangered species: black rhino and wild dog, both of which were reintroduced in the 1990s. Nomadic wild dogs may be seen anywhere in the park, but the black rhino are restricted to a fenced sanctuary to ensure their safety.
Camp sites have basic facilities and provide an opportunity to hear the sounds of the night.
Mkomazi is home to several dry country species that are rare elsewhere in Tanzania including the fringe-eared oryx, the lesser kudu and the gerenuk.
This is an adventurous and rewarding destination for dedicated wildlife lovers, conservationists and birders. Your Daigle Tours guide will do everything possible to make sure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
